What is wrong if my toddler will not drink from a sippy cup?

It doesn't necessarily mean that there is a problem. Some toddlers just don't like a sippy cup and do better with a straw or even an open cup. It's also not unusual for them to refuse a new kind of cup for days or weeks before accepting it.

If you remove all of the bottles from the house and give him or her no option they will drink from a sippy cup. Try the Nuby sippy cup at first, the nipple is not hard, it is soft like that of a bottle and makes the move easy.

He or she may not be ready to drink from a sippy cup. Alternatively, he or she may be trying to exert control and test your authority by determining from what cup he or she will drink. You must decide whether the child is ready for a sippy cup developmentally, or if he or she is testing you.
