Drink plenty of fluids, 8-10 glasses. Sports drinks, diluted fruit juice, non-caffeinated sodas. Eat crackers and soup to meet sodium needs. Eat boiled starches/cereals. Return to normal diet w/normal stools.

Diarrhea should be allowed to run its course if it lasts no longer than a few days because your body is ridding itself of something that shouldn't be there. Just drink plenty of fluids. There are several anti-diarrhea medications you can get over the counter to relieve your symptoms. After several days see your doctor.

Usually, the BRAT diet is prescribed. This limits food intake to clear broth, plain rice, applesauce, and dry toast for the first 24-48 hours. You might also want to take Immodium to halt the runs. Drink filtered water to avoid becoming dehydrated. If this works, gradually return to your normal diet. If cramping and diarrhea continue, see your doctor.

Diarrhea and cramps are often treated by drinking plenty of water, avoiding caffeine and acidic foods, and getting more rest.
