In some cases surgical treatment is required. Treatment involves surgical correction of the obstruction as soon as possible, especially if it involves a strangulated hernia or other condition likely to lead to tissue death. The intestinal contents are removed through an intestinal tube. Antibiotics may be given to prevent or treat infection.
