There are many myths which are associated with Dragonflies. According to the myths, Dragonflies are supposed to have once been Dragons. Dragonflies symbolize change, mostly inner spiritual change of an individual. Also they symbolize maturity, a person's ability to reflect on life and penetrate into the very core of things.

If you are talking about the symbolism of the dragonfly in Japanese mythology, the dragonfly is a symbol of luck. The story goes that on a journey if you see a dragonfly you will get to your destination safely. It also means certain victory in battle if you spot it.

It symbolizes several things. A short-lived creature, it can symbolize living life to the fullest or living for the moment. Its flight agility symbolizes the power and poise that comes with maturity.

In some cultures it is a symbol of victory. Some Native American tribes see them as a symbol for fresh water. In Japanese culture it is a symbol of happiness, courage and strength. I guess it symbolizes lots of things it just depends on what culture you live in and where you live.
