Considering all people who are diagnosed with gastric cancer, the overall survival rate is about 28%. Bear in mind that people who's cancer is found and treated earlier are more likely to survive than people who are diagnosed later in the progression of the disease.

The survival rate for cancer of the upper stomach is ten to fifteen percent and for the lower stomach, fifty percent. The average rate is twenty one percent.

It varies by the stage at which it was diagnosed. Stage one has less than 40% cure rate, where as stage 4 is universally fatal even with treatment.
