The Stroop effect was discovered in 1935 by an experimenter named Stroop. This effect shows that when naming the color a word is printed in, people are slowed if the actual printed word is another color.

The Stroop Effect is when the brain has contradicting signals and becomes confused. This would be something like seeing the word 'white' on a piece of paper, but the word is written in black ink. It was discovered in the 1930's.
