Elijah was a prophet of God who predicted a famine in the country of Israel where King Ahab ruled. The people worshipped a false god (idol) called Baal instead of God. Elijah called the prophets of Baal and challenged them to build an altar and whose God would bring fire down, they would worship. I Kngs tells the story.

Elijah was a prophet of the Lord and told the people of Israel to repent for their misdoings and sins against the Lord who provided their land. He is most famous for praying that no rain come from the skies for three and a half years. When he prayed for rain, it rained.
