The circle in the symbol represents the world of Alcoholics Anonymous. The triangle within the circle represents The Three Legacies of Recovery, Unity and Service. It was first adopted as an official AA symbol in 1955 but since 1994 it is no longer recognized as the official symbol of AA. However, many people still associate it with AA.

There is nothing significant about the symbol. The symbol just stands out from far away. It's unique in its own form.

The three outside sides of the triangle are Unity, Service, Recovery. These are the principles upon which AA is based: WE come together in unity and service to others, and therein lies our recovery. The letters AA (for Alcoholics Anonymous) are in the center.

The triangle represents recovery, unity and service which is very important in Alcoholics Anonymous. The circle represents the serenity and perfection. Together they represent the perfect body and mind relationship.
