The shape almost looks like the wings of a butterfly, the north end magnetic wave lines go to the other side.

The magnetic field lines run from the north pole of a magnet to its south pole. The field lines start and end perpendicualr to the magnet's surface.

The magnetic field goes the magnet from south to north. Then they turn and wrap around to go through again.
