Publication order - Read Frank Herbert's originals (Dune, Dune Messiah, Children of Dune, God Emperor of Dune, Heretics of Dune, Chapterhouse Dune) first. Then if you still need more, give the new books a go! If you start with the new books you'll hit loads of SPOILERS... which is bad!

The original Dune series by Frank Herbert includes: Dune (1965); Dune Messiah (1969); Children of Dune (1976); God Emperor of Dune (1981); Heretics of Dune (1984); and Chapterhouse: Dune (1985). Herbert left a short outline for a seventh novel. His son, Brian, and a coauthor published it as 2 novels: Hunters of Dune (2006;) and Sandworms of Dune (2007).
