Comorbidity in patients with bipolar disorder is extremely common, and is in fact more common that in patients without. While exact rates are difficult to pin down, studies have put the rate of comorbidity at a minimum of 60%, with a strong likelihood that it is much higher, potentially as high as 95%.

A search of the medical literature for the rate of bipolar comorbidity just states that there is a high rate, as much as 33%. Bipolar patients usually have a higher rate of cardiovascular disease, suicide, cancer, obesity, substance abuse, alcohol abuse than the normal population.
