It depends on where you live and on the age of the microwave. If it still works, you might consider donating it to a charity. Older microwaves are sometimes made with metals that can be hazardous in landfills. Your best bet is to call a local recycling center.

You can just throw a microwave out but if it still works you should put a sign on it on your lawn so that someone can use it.
