What is the proper format for an outline?

Content (leave this empty to be filled in last). Introduction paragraph of your topic. Argument and supporting material. Counter-argument, your defense and supporting material against the counter-argument. Ending conclusion and summary. Finally the References.

Format your outline by starting with your major headings/subjects and use capital letters for them. Use sub-headings underneath with numbers followed by sub-sub headings using small letters.

Outlines are pretty easy once you get the gist of what they need to have in them. An outline is usually broken out, on the highest level, into your most important parts (introduction, body, and closing). Each part gets a Roman Numeral and all of the supporting arguments for each part are represented with letters (A, B, C, etc.).
