The process of "getting your tubes tied" or medically known as tubal litigation is a permanent method of birth control for women in which the fallopian tubes are cut and sealed therefore preventing the egg from reaching the uterus to be fertilized. As said before it's a permanent, irreversible method.

The process is called tubal ligation. A small endoscope is inserted through the umbilicus and both fallopian tubes(which carry the egg to the uterus) are first visualized and then tied off. There is no scar. This prevents the sperm from reaching the egg. Although the procedure can be reversed with microsurgery the chances of pregnancy afterwards are very small.

Via a laproscope a surgeon will place clips over your fallopian tubes. The clips can be taken off, but for overall results it is not reversible.

Your tube are typed by entering the abdomen at time of C-section or laparoscopically if it is elective. Small clips are placed over the tubes. It is hard but reversible.

Having your tubes tied is actually called tubal ligation. It is done as an outpatient surgery. The surgeon cuts or burns the fallopian tubes. It is reversible, but a reversal surgery tends to be very expensive and it doesn't always work. Only consider tubal ligation after you are done having children.
