The "Tower" series are a heady mix of fantasy, sci-fi, western and horror. It involves the main character "the gunslinger" on a quest towards a tower that is at times referred to as being both physical and metaphorical. They are set in an alternative and feudal world.

The "Dark Tower" series is a series that King started in 1982 with the publication of The Gunslinger. A new volume is issued about every five years. The first book, "The Gunslinger" introduces protagonist Roland as he pursues the Man in Black through bleak and tired landscapes in a world that has "moved on."
