What is the policing policy in America?

Do they actually ask you for your green card when you get pulled over?

No, almost never. For routine traffic stops, you are usually asked for a driver's license and insurance card. If you have these, they almost never won't ask for papers.

In all states, you are pulled over because you are suspected of breaking a driving law or another law. It is illegal to pull people over at random and then ask for proof of residency or citizenship. However, if someone does not have adequate identification, further proof of residency can be requested - like green cards and visas.

I am pretty sure the policing system in the US is different in each state. In North Carolina, they did not request Green Cards when our car was pulled over. Maybe they do in other states.
