What is the point of the nature/nurture debate?

If it's "nature", would you quit trying to raise your kid?

Well, the debate is to figure out how much of a person's personality is hard-wired in at birth and how much is attributable to the experiences they have post-birth. If it was nature, then sure, quit raising your kid. However, it's widely accepted that both aspects have an affect.

I think, rather than it being the point to not raise your kid, it is more of question on where to lie blame, on genes or environment?

Due to my childhood I would tend to say that "nature" does play a very important part. Some character traits are inherited from our parents. However the power of nurturing shouldn't be overlooked since our life experiences are the ones that "polish" our characters. So no I would never quit raising my child, the idea itself is rather ludicrous.

No, it does not mean to abandon your child. Nature simply means respecting the environment, such as using earth friendly products.
