The Outsiders is a coming of age story that addresses themes such as peer pressure, social classes, teen violence, and unconventional family structures. While written by a teenage girl, the main characters are all boys. The main character is an orphan who makes mistakes but ends up a hero. It is a powerful story and highly recommended.

"The Outsiders" was first published in 1967 and concerned itself with two different teen social groups. One was the Greasers and the other was the Socs (short for Socials). There is big economic difference between the two groups and result in tensions between the two. Francis Ford Coppola made a movie based on the book in 1983.
