The best way is to donate to local charities and food banks. Donate blankets, hats, coats and other warm clothing to shelters that will accept them. Join a group that crochets or knits hats for the homeless.

I think the best way would be to donate food or items you don't need to a homeless shelter in your area. Or if you know where someone homeless is take it to them.

The best means to help the homeless depends on why they are homeless. Alcoholics and drug addicts require treatment to get clean. The mentally ill, including schizophrenics, require psychiatric treatment and may never be able to live independently, but living in a care setting is better than on the streets.

Education is the number one weapon to use when going up against social issues. The homeless don't need a hand out but a hand to help pull them up.
