The engine I.D. numbers are usually located in the engine bay. Usually on a metal "tag" stamped onto the crossmember over the radiator or on the underside of the hood.

Well on v8 engine the casting number is stamped onto the tab located at the front of the block on the passenger side. On v6's the number is stamped on the block behind the distributor. Look online for a list of codes for identifying it.
