You must be sure to measure out the area first, than lay out the tile before you actually install it. Laying out will help to insure a proper fit.

The key to laying tile is balance. You want to make sure you are laying the tile in a straight line. Use a level or straightedge with every tile. Don't rely on "eyeball" measurements.

The biggest thing is to lay it on a perfectly level and clean surface. Otherwise you will get cracks and tile lift. Also make sure to use the correct adhesive for the tile you are using. Always dry fit the tile first before laying it to prevent problems down the road.

Analyze underlayment. Start in the center of the room. Lay one row of tiles out before applying adhesive. Determine how much cutting will be required at the outer edges of the tiles. You can then adjust the first tiles to minimize whether you will have awkward cuts at the edge of the room. Apply adhesive.
