Japanese has three alphabets. The first, most basic, is called Hakana. The second, Katana, is used when writing foreign names, like Macintosh, or John. Both of these alphabets represent syllables like "i", or "chi". The final alphabet is called Kanji. Each letter represents a word, like "blue", or "love".

The Japanese alphabet is different than the English one in that the Japanese have three writing systems. One of these is kanji, which is a system of pictographs which represent word meanings. The other two are hiragana and katakana,in which each character is composed of a consonant and vowel sound.

The Japanese alphabet is very different from the English. The vowels have their own symbols, then the rest are two letters merged together.
