The first was built in 50AD by the Romans. After the Romans left, it fell into disrepair and there's no evidence it was rebuilt until 990. It was destroyed and rebuilt in 1091 and and again in 1136. in 1173 a stone bridge was begun that was completed in 1209.

There was once a bridge. But then it fell down. I'm not sure if anyone was sad or happy, but they cared enough to make a song about it.

There were several bridges with that name. A priest named Peter built the first bridge back in the 12th century. This bridge, with significant modifications and repairs, lasted until 1832. The new bridge built at this time lasted until 1968 when it was dismantled and shipped to Arizona. The new London bridge is far more modern than its predecessors.
