Santa Claus takes his name after St. Nicholas, who actually lived in Myra, Turkey. He is known for his charity, especially in giving to poor children. He is a revered saint in many countries and our idea of Santa Claus originated with him.

Santa Claus is based on a 4th century Bishop who was a very generous man who gave to the poor. His essence lives on to this day.
