Rice pudding originated from the Middle East and came to North America via the introduction of rice from India. It wasn't so much that it was decided to put ride into pudding as much as the rice was cooked for a long time, until it became soft and thick, forming the base of what would be sweetened into pudding.

It originally came from Asia. Rice pudding was made over thousands of years ago. It was invented to help with stomach problems.
