Hanna Barbera was founded in 1957 by the animators Joseph Barbera and William Hanna, who both originally began work at MGM studios. There, they created Tom and Jerry. They were the first company to have an animated series appear on prime-time television- the renowned and oft-imitated but never duplicated Flintstones.

Hanna Barbera was formed in the 1950s i think and they have made high quality cartoons such as The Flintstones, Yogi Bear and The Jetsons. These groundbreaking cartoons that were aimed as much at adults as children have inspired a generation of animators ever since, The Simpsons for instance being drawn from Flintstones.

Well, the history is that they started to compete with Disney and thus made cartoons accordingly. Jackson is one of their main characters as are the Flinstones. Their cartoons resembled more of a realist feel, whereas the disney characters were all about the land of magic. Thus, Hanna was a competitor of Disney.
