The old testament is the first written record of stew being made. in genesis, esua trades his father's dowry with his brother jacob, all for a dish of stew. It is only specified in the text as stew of lentis , but it is clear in other texts throughout the old testament that they ate meat.

Stew is one of the dishes that has truly been around since the dawn of man. Adding foodstuffs to liquid and heating in the most basic of culinary feats, cooking a tougher meat (such as beef) in liquid over time for easier consumption. evidence of stew pots in various cultures have been found dating from over EIGHT THOUSAND years ago.
