Historically, the largest bill printed for general circulation was the $10,000 bill. However, it, along with $5000, $1000 and $500 bills have been withdrawn from circulation due to fraud.

The highest denomination of U. S. currency printed in the U. S. as of 2009 is the $100 bill. In 1929, bills were issued for $500, $1000, $5000, $10,000 and $100,000, all in small quantities. These large denominations are, for the most part, no longer in circulation.
