I really wouldn't recommend putting your dachshund in the washing machine - they're small enough already and you don't want to shrink them any more! Seriously, though, putting animals in any such machine is extremely dangerous. If you wash a dachshund, dry them with a cool hairdryer.

ahahahahaha! I don't know if you intentionally misunderstood, or if you actually don't know--when a dog is fertile, it's called being "in heat." Either way, I'm voting you up!  add a comment

All dogs have a 4 stage estrus cycle that occurs twice a year on average. Anestrus, proestrus, estrus and metestrus. Estrus is the only phase where the bitch will stand for breeding, this phase occurs after the "bleeding" phase normally associated with dogs in heat. It only lasts for about 5-9 days.

The heat cycle is usually about three weeks. You will notice her vulva is swollen, thats lets you know its the beginning of the cycle. It usually takes about two weeks before she can be bred. You will notice a bloody discharge and that means your dog is ready to be bred.

Dogs are usually in heat for about 3 weeks. The first week they have a red discharge, then the second a clear or straw colored discharge, then almost no discharge the last week, but this time can be longer as dogs are indviduals. Female dogs first go into heat at puberty which can be any time between 6-12 months.
