The Oregon short barrel rule applies to rifles and shotguns, but NOT to handguns. It is illegal to carry a concealed firearm without a permit, but a handgun in a holster is NOT concealed. No minimum limit if you carry it in a holster.

The acceptable barrel length is no less than 6 inches or the weapon is considered illegal. Remember that a handgun needs a permit.

Federal law says that the barrel is measured from where it begins at the receiver to the edge of the business end. Most states, including Oregon, have strict laws about cutting down gun barrels.

Last time I inquired about it the minimum barrel length for a rifle or shotgun was 16.5 inches. Don't know of any for handguns.

I can't find a legal length determination on handguns, only shotguns. This may be because an unaltered handgun is legal, and handguns have predetermined lengths. Inquire with your Sheriff's office.

You would have to either look it up online or talk to a person who would know. The information is out there. You could ask a cop about it. You could go to a law libray to find out also. You can find the information almost anywhere on the net.
