This is one of the breeds that really only likes a chosen person best and may only tolerate others. They shake not out of fear but excess adreniline response.

Dog's especially small ones have one person they love the most. Chihuahuas tend to get nervous when they are around people other than this person. They can also be yappy and nippy at times too. They are good dogs. Just not for small kids.

Chihuahuas naturally shake, even when happy, which accounts for the perception that they are "nervous". In fact, Chihuahuas are an intelligent, playful and even precocious breed, with personality traits that can seem rather "terrier-like". However, they are also very loving and loyal, and will just as readily sit quietly for hours in your lap.
