What is the difference between scotch and whiskey?

Scotch and whiskey are pretty similar, however the main and most noteable difference between these two alcoholic beverages is the fact that Scotch is made in Scotland. Most differences between the two are debatable, yet scotch is also usually distilled three times.

The main difference between Scotch Whisky and just plain Whiskey is that Scotch Whisky is made in Scotland while regular Whiskey can be made anywhere. Also note the spelling, Scotch Whisky is spelled with the "e". Scotch Whisky is regulaged to a higher extent and is typically lighter and smoother in taste.

Scotch is a type of high quality Scottish type of whiskey. However it is different because to be label "Scotch" it has to be produced in Scotland with Scottish ingredient. The processes are similar but the ingredients and the aging environment always produce different results. There are also various categories under each main type of whiskey.
