What is the difference between appearance and reality?

Appearance is regarded as that which is internal, temporary and subjective. That which is real is regarded as external, eternal and objective.

apperance is based on perception, or, how you as an individual interpret something. Reality is measured by fact, or, how an object or situation actually is.

Appearances don't tend to have as full an affect as reality - for instance, a mirage looks like water, but one cannot drink it. Appearance implies that something is without substance or may not be fully understood by the observer. Reality doesn't require an observer to have it's effects.
