What is the difference between a gland and an organ?

Or are they the same?

Actually, a gland is a more specific name for an organ. An organ is any specialized group of cells that together perform a certain function. A gland is a type of organ that produces a hormone. An example of a gland would be your thyroid, pituitary, or your pancreas. They produce different hormones.

A gland is an organ, but it is not vital for human survival. The best example is the pituitary gland which controls the body's growth. While it is a very great gland to have, if it fails you will not die

You are very wrong. The liver, the largest organ in the body, is also a gland. People don't tend to last very long when it fails. Specifically, a gland secretes fluid. Organs, as a rule, do not.
