This term refers to what was once understood as the "personnel department" of large organizations. This office is responsible for setting employee policies, arranging benefits, facilitating the hiring of new employees, managing grievances, executing worker preferences with regard to allocations of monies to 401K's, and tracking employee use of sick leave and vacation time.
