In the baptist religion to atonement means reconciliation between god and humans because Jesus died on the cross. Atonement has many meaning in the babtist religion, it can be making amends towards god for any wrong doing, it can also mean confession to reach atonement. All this basically adds up to repentance for a particular wrong doing.

It is the belief that the blood of Jesus Christ, which he shed on the cross, will cover all of your sins (past, present and future). And on that basis, when you put your trust in God, you will be saved or reconciled to God.

Atonement is more vague for Baptists; there is a sense of regret and a sort of attempt to fix the problem.

One must acknowledge the wrong act or actions. They must stop committing the wrong. And they must seek to make it right.
