The National Weather center has terms to describe different weather phenomenon. We experience strong winds that blow and spin clockwise. These strong winds high pressure systems are define as anticyclones. These "blocking highs" pushes out the bad weather and allowing the weather to be nice and calm for days. The first anticyclone was first spotted in 1860.
