The radius of the sun is equal to approximately 675,000 kilometers. The circumference of the sun is, hence, approximately 4,366,813 kilometers (2,713,406 miles).

Since it is a globe, the circumference decreases if measured away from the equator and toward either pole. One of the effects of its rotation is a bulge at the equator. At its equator the sun's circumference is 4,379,000 kilometers, or 2,715,000 miles. In comparison, the earth's circumference at its equator is 40,075 kilometers or 24,901 miles.
