The milky film could be a cataract, which occurs in older dogs. It could also be an ulcer, which is caused by chronic irritation to the eye. Since the eye is swollen shut, your dog might have suffered an eye injury with possible infection. Contact your veterinarian to determine the cause of the swelling and the best course of treatment.

It could be a number of things. She could have a Cataract, an infection or could not be making tears naturally. Take her to the Vet.

If the eye is swollen then the animal must be in discomfort. There could be several causes of the milky film over the dogs eye such as keratitis, glaucoma and cataracts. All of these conditions if not treated immediately can cause permanent blindness in the animal.

This happens from infection or from something going into the eye and causing a scratch or infection. Also in a worst case scenario it could be blind in that eye.
