For painting a very large area like that spraying is the way to go. If you use the proper paint and follow the direction you will have a streak-free finish.

the best way to paint the porch in a situation where one person has reservations is to give the job to the person who has the most concerns, either that or use primer before spraying.

To get a really even finish, it is best to use a professional paint spraying machine. You can generally rent one by the day at your local home improvement store. If you don't want to use a machine, you can always do it the old fashioned way with a paint brush, but the finish will be less even.

I would recommend using a foam roller to paint a wooden porch. It would be faster and would cover the area with no streaks

The wood surfaces have to be sanded first to remove the smoothness and other foreign matter. Thereafter, the surfaces have to be primed with a suitable Primer using a spray gun or roller followed by two coats of a suitable Finish Paint again by spraying or rolling. There will be no streaks by this process.

Do not spray, use a brush for complete coverage. If you only spray the paint will go on quickly but not be durable. Use a large brush.
