1st if it has paint or stain on it you will need to remove or sand any old paint or varnish from it. Next look for any dings or holes and use a wood filler to smooth it out.Then stain and use a clear coat to protect it.

You can tape up the glass and stuff that you don't want to paint. You will then want to sand everything down that you want painted. Get a good waterbased stain and paint it on with a brush.

Hand sand the Picture frame. Start with the roughest sandpaper and move slowly to the finest untill you have removed all the paint or Finish. Once its clean, re stain.

Find a product called "Ez stripper" it's a white paste and made by 3M. It leaves do residual and won't eat away the joint glue. Once brushed on, leave it sit for about an hour then use a putty knife to remove the stripper an then use the scrubber pads to finish it.

If it is wood then you can sand it down lightly and apply new stain to it or if it is plastic you can spray paint it almost any color your prefer.
