Always follow the directions on the label. If the label is missing though, your best bet is to take it to a dry cleaners to be professionally pressed. If that's not an option, place the dress on a hook in a steamy bathroom, then iron on low. Be very careful not to spray water on the material, it will spot.

The best way to "iron" taffeta is to use a wet cloth, like a dishtowel. Wet the dishtowel, wring it out, lay it over the taffeta gown and then use the iron on a low setting to smooth out any wrinkles. You could also use a hand held "steamer" and steam the dress on a hanger.

Set iron to a warm and turn off steam. Turn dress inside out. Use a smooth pressing cloth, being careful not to stretch the fabric by pushing too hard.

Take a a light towel and wet it. Then, place the wet towel on top of the taffeta and iron. The heat will seep through the wet towel and take out the wrinkles without damaging the dress.
