Usually you want a mike that has a "soft cover" on it. This will reduce the background noise and "static noise" that you usually hear. They're easy to find online, and are even available on eBay. You probably also want it to be telescoping, so you can reach the/mike/around/to/get/nice/sound effects.

If you want a microphone for business purposes, you need to get a professional-quality mic, and even then there's no guarantee that it'll pick up all the sound in the area.

Both Microsoft and Logitech produce microphones and headphones with microphones attached. Find a few models you might be interested in and visit several mainstream shopping sites to see what other people have to say about them. Most modern computer microphones are made very clear and the sensitivity can be adjusted.

A directional mic. Omni-directional and condenser mics pick up all kinds of sounds in the environment. Voice overs in a car are the best sound proof booths.

For those wishing to get into video narration, an ideal microphone might be the USB Logitech Microphone. It doesn't have volume, though, but that can be controlled with software.

You probably want a microphone with good wind protection. The best for this would most likely be a jawbone microphone that detects vibrations from your body, not the air.
