Sony makes very good top of the line tv's, and so does samsung. I would reccommend one of these if you're looking for the best.

Sony picture and sound is superior to most other brands, but it comes with a steep price tag. For Sony quality at a discount, try Samsung. Other brands of note include Toshiba, Mitsubishi, and Hitachi. Each brand has multiple "tiers" of TVs, ranging from base models to those with superior picture and sound quality. Choose the one right for you.

This is purely a matter of brand preference, most would say for a consumer level TV a Sony Bravia XBR series.
