What is some of the best educational toys on the market, and what were some of your favorite childhood toys?

There some great but expensive educational toys from Baby Einstein on the market, which are mainly for babies and toddlers. Then play dough is still quite popular, it helps to learn colors & shapes and promotes creativity. The good old Lego bricks are still one of kid's favourite toys.

Tag and Tag Jr are really educational, as they teach kids to read. If you get a system like V-Motion or Fisher Price iXL, that will teach kids anything from colors to counting to spelling depending on the game. My favorite as a child was the Speak N Spell (child of the 80s.)

One of the best educational toys today, is a Leapster. V-Tech also has some good educational toys as well. I don't really remember having educational toys as a child, with the exception of the alphabet blocks. We didn't have the electronics that kids do today.

The main difference would be that today the educational toys are electronic. As a child, the Rubik's cube was a toy that I liked.
