Sore throats caused by drinking, smoking, or shouting will respond to rest. Gargling with warm salt water, sucking throat lozenges, and limiting yourself to soft (non-spicy, nonsalty) foods may
help in these situations. A sore throat that accompanies a cold, the flu, or other respiratory
ailments usually clears up when the ailment does. In the meantime, gargling, will help.
