What is the best starter choice for Pokemon Emerald?

I would go with Mudkip. I would say that water Pokemon are pretty much the most versatile types when it comes to advantages. Plus, with Mudkip you're not going to have any trouble beating all of the gym leaders. The eigth might give you a hard time with Mudkip though.

Mudkip is the best overall Pokemon to start with, and can easily beat all but the eighth gym leader. Your next choice would be Treecko.
