What is the best parenting advice you can give me for a strong willed four year old?

My four year old is getting to the point that he is very difficult to deal with.

Four year olds tend to be very stubborn. They do not want to do what they are told to do, and can throw tantrums when frustrated. You want to be firm with your four year old and not back down with your opinion. They will learn that they cannot always get their way.

Say this: "I'm X years older than you and I gotta a good 100 pounds on you." Make sure they understood consequences BEFORE. Give two choices; let them pick one. Four-year olds will manipulate you all day long, so don't give them the opportunity. You're in charge.

Make sure your four year old knows what the house rules are and make sure you enforce them. If he doesn't follow them, put him in a 4 minute time out. Pretty soon he'll learn that if he breaks the rules he will get a time out. Also reward him when he acts good.

Kids should learn the intrinsic value of good behavior or decisions. They should not be rewarded for "acting good." They should learn to be proud of themselves for making good choices and behaving well.  add a comment

Kids often get this bad habit. Its just when they get everything they ask for, They want everything they ask for. Try this. Tell your husband to scold him. When he comes to you crying you explain things to him calmly.

In short, pick your battles well and then win every single one of them. You have to be selective on what is most important, then stick to your guns!
