A warm color (with tones of red, orange, yellow, etc.) will look best with the warm tone of the wood. A neutral shade, like taupe, with a more golden hue will contrast well. Avoid colors with cool tones, such as blue or grey.
Since mahogany is usually a dark wood I would go with neutral colors for your paints. Something like a pale sage or maybe a light tan color would look good with this color flooring.
You can use almost any color you want with mahogany floors, though warmer colors may work best. I would avoid yellows and medium browns as these will make the room look sallow. Greens and oranges with too much yellow in them will have the same problem. Veer more toward reddish or bluish hues instead of yellow as the base.
Any of the white or beige shades would look great, especially for smaller rooms. If you have them in a larger room grays or pink shades would work well, too.
Assuming that the mahogany floors that are mentioned are simply clear coated or lightly stained, the color of the floor will be a reddish-brown. Lighter and more neutral colors will accent the mahogany nicely. The size and purpose of the room will influence the decision as well.
I think the best paint colors to go with mahogany floors are dark red (not maroon but, not fire engine red eithet), green (not evergreen or pastel green), and any kind of yellow will match well.
Since mahogany is a very dark and rich colour, it is best to match it with lighter colours. Natural shades like beige, cream and white go very well. Pink tones should be avoided as they will clash with the red undertones in the mahogany.
A neutral color will go best becasue mahogany has a lot of color in it. I have mahogany floors and we painted are walls a light brown. It looks really good and I think a cream color would also be a good choice.
A cheerfully Tropical-Green is the best color to go with this type of wood. It's the year for this color, also, green's the traditional complement with rich and luxurious reds.
Consider the furnishings and art work in the room. Use your favorite items as a guide to what paint colors would be pleasing on the scales of warm/cool, and light/dark.
For a warm room, try caramel colors. For a room that is vibrant, strong primary colors would work very well. In the end, choose a color that pleases you.
It depends on the size of the room. If you have a smaller room with dark mahogany floors, you would want to go with a lighter color. A lighter shade of green might compliment nicely.
