All depends on what speed you travel, but surely it must be the Opel Corsa 170D. Yes it's diesel but gets you up to 25 kilometers on a liter. That's with a good load on it. Very versatile vehicle.

According to www. fueleconomy. gov, the most fuel efficient car is the Toyota Prius. Other fuel efficient cars are the Ford Fusion hybrid, the Smartcar, the Mini Cooper, the Honda Civic hybrid, and the diesel Volkswagen Golf and Jetta. Generally, a manual transmission has better fuel efficiency than an automatic transmission. And hybrids do better than regular cars.

Usually a smaller hybrid car would be the best. As of now the toyota prius or the honda civic hybrid are good cars that get over 40 miles per gallon but are still comfortable enough to drive like a normal car around town and allow for proper storage of normal items in the car.
